⚠️ What You Need to Know About DTF Printing
1. No Fading or Feathering Into Shirt Color
DTF cannot print smooth fades that blend into the fabric. Every design is printed with a white base and clear edges, which means:
-
Fades into transparency or shirt color will not print properly.
-
You may see harsh or unwanted edges instead of a smooth blend.
✅ Instead: Fade into a solid color that’s part of the design—not into transparency or the color of the garment.
2. Clean, Bold Edges Work Best
Because DTF prints have defined edges (like a decal or patch), designs with wispy, smoky, or soft edges don’t transfer well.
-
Avoid ultra-thin outlines or distressed effects that rely on fine detail fading out.
-
Crisp lines and bold shapes are your friends here!
✅ Instead: Use solid, clear outlines or backgrounds to contain your artwork.
3. Transparency Isn’t Printed
DTF does not print transparent areas in your file. Any part of the design that is transparent will stay transparent—the shirt color will show through.
-
This works great for standalone logos or shapes.
-
But if your design includes fades into transparency or relies on partially see-through elements, those parts will not be printed at all.
✅ Instead: Ensure all important design elements are opaque. If fading is needed, fade into a solid shape or background—not into nothing.
4. No Special Effects Like Metallic or Neon
DTF is full-color and vivid, but it cannot replicate:
-
Metallic finishes
-
Glow-in-the-dark
-
Neon/fluorescent inks
-
Puff textures
If you need these specialty effects, let us know—we may offer other printing options that can help.
🎨 Artwork Prep Checklist
To avoid delays or unexpected results, please make sure your artwork is:
✅ High-resolution (300 DPI)
✅ In PNG format with a transparent background (unless a solid background is intended)
✅ Text converted to outlines (so fonts don’t shift)
✅ Free of fades to transparency
✅ Built with crisp, clean edges and no fine feathering
